Introducing.. Wendy Escobar (Traxsource LIVE)
‘Traxsource LIVE is changing.. Same great music, brand-new face.’
Hailing from NYC, Escobar is a fresh new face on the House scene. A recent graduate of the esteemed Point Blank Music School, Wendy’s underground adventures so far have seen her play numerous House hotspots from London to Detroit, Movement to Burning Man, honing her craft and cutting her teeth playing alongside Paradise Garage residents on the famous NYC dance scene.
We caught up with our new host ahead of her debut for us on Traxsource LIVE..
Hey Wendy! Thanks for chatting to us. What are you up to right now?
Hey! I’m answering your questions! With tunes in the background… now I’m listening to a recording of a conversation that popped on shuffle on iTunes. I like hitting record while hanging with friends and listening back. There’s some good stuff in there.
You’re based in NYC, what are your favourite spots in the city?
My apartment and Stuyvesant Square park which is around the corner. I live between Union Square and the East Village, there’s a lot going on day and night. I enjoy going for walks or reading at the park. Oh! I love the 24 hour Staples at Union Square.
Tell us a bit about the local NYC scene at the moment, where do you like to party / play?
The scene here’s cool. New York is a big city – there’s lots going on in Brooklyn and Manhattan, really cool afterhours and underground scene. I frequent Elvis Guest House, Output, TBA, All Day I Dream, BlkMarket and Bushwick AV the most but I find I have the most fun at the old school parties – Soulgasm, Shelter, 718 Sessions – people still carry baby powder in their back pocket to sprinkle on the dance floor! And you can almost always guarantee someone will be jamming with a cowbell. The spirit & soul at those parties is unmatched.
It is no longer, but my first few gigs were at Sapphire Lounge – house nights there were dope.
Who are your influences as a DJ?
Eek! This is a hard one because I find inspiration in everything. Frankie Knuckles, Little Louie Vega, Carl Cox, Sasha, Eli Escobar, Maya Jane Coles, Richie Hawtin, Kim Ann Foxman, and don’t judge me on this one but Steve Aoki. I can go on forever here…
What’s the best set you’ve ever seen?
Oh man. Every time I see Sasha play I think it’s the best set I’ve ever seen.
Lastly, what are your two favourite house records? give us one classic golden oldie and one newer cut you’re feeling.
I’ve been listening to Plastic Dreams – Jaydee a lot lately, it’s still fresh…I had to put it on right now. I love it.
I.T.B – Walker & Royce: I love silly, it’s also played out a lot with the crew I hang with.
Welcome to the team, Wendy!
