Label Spotlight #006 - Pocket Jacks Trax
We continue our label spotlight series this week with Funky Trunkers’s Pocket Jacks Trax! Pocket Jacks Trax has been responsible for releasing quality underground Funky, Tech and Jackin’ House from the likes of Makito, Angelo Ferreri and Danny Cruz. Read on to find out more..
Give us a little bit of background on you and the label and what your influences were / are?
Back in 2013 both of us, me Ruben Naess and my buddy (Danny Jackster) planned to start the label. Danny was the one who came up with the idea, both the label name and our duo name “Funky Trunkers”. As for me, I’m fresh in this game by only producing house music since 2009. As for Danny, he has been a house DJ for many years, playing around the world in places like New York and around Asia as well. It was back in 2009 when we first met and arranged some great private house parties where we spun vinyls and had an incredible time. From that day on, Danny and I started to work together. Nowadays, Danny stays in Bangkok while I stay in the Philippines and both of us are currently DJing. Our influences these days will be tracks from Inland Knights, Tommy Vercetti, Jesse Perez, Billy Kenny, DJ Mes, Electronic Youth, Makito, Detroit Swindle & Tim Cullen. These producers have some great minds.
What have been your favourite releases from the label over the years?
It’s very hard to tell because of all the dope tracks, but if we have to choose, it would be “Makito – Jailhouse Funk”, massive tune! Also, when Danny and I produced “Funky Trunkers – Soul Power”, we really had a magic and funny session time!
Tell us a bit about what’s coming up for the label.
We are Still on the same road, releasing house music with jack grooves. We have a massive release upcoming: “KPD – Buster Douglas”.
Your best moment working at the label / best project to work on to date.
To see several tracks hit the number 1 spot in the Top 100. Also, when artists send us EP’s, like for example Ed The Spread or Makito: “Here is a 2 track EP” or “Here are 3 tracks, hope you like” – we feel lucky and blessed getting that messages.
If you could have signed any record in the world for the label, what would it have been and why?
We’re always definitely looking for something original. It’s also hard to say what kind of tracks exactly, but take as for example “Tommy Vercetti – Killa”, this track has everything in my opinion!
What do you look for when signing a record? Any tips for budding producers looking to get signed to the label?
Well, we receive a lot of demos everyday but only 5% will pass. Don’t send us anything you’re not satisfied with. If you finish a track or EP and love it, then please send it to us. Keep on producing original tracks, originality is our first priority. ;)
