Dosem: Recent Activity, 2016 in Review
For close to a decade, Dosem has been shaking the dance floors of the globe with his infectious, weighty club tracks, with his name a staple on the likes of Suara, Carl Cox’s Intec Recordings, Tronic, Bedrock and Toolroom. The end of 2016 sees Dosem drop the massive ‘Recent Activity’ on his own label Houstrike. We celebrated the release by catching up with the Spaniard to run through his 2016…
2016 has been a year of big tunes, tell us some of your favourites from the year?
You’ve been touring like a madman, what were some of your favourite gigs of 2016?
Hard to pick one since I have many good memories from this year’s gigs. BPM Festival and all the USA dates were fantastic, also the first Houstrike tour in Japan and the Ibiza season at Blue Marlin. Green Love Festival in Serbia was also amazing recently… I’m sure I’m missing some important ones but these are the first ones that came out in my mind right now.
Favourite productions of yours from 2016?
I’m really grateful with the the support and feedback we’ve got with the first three releases on Houstrike, can’t wait to show you the new stuff we’re working on for the next year. I am also very pleased with the positive impact that “Projection” has had in the charts, my last release in Toolroom.
Tell us a bit about your new trax ‘Recent Activity’ and ‘Just Arrived’ – what were your influences?
It’s the third release of my new label, Houstrike. In “Recent Activity” I was looking to fuse some of the acid sounds that influenced me in the past with an intense beat. I like the tracks that are built slowly… the same way I like to play in my sets. “Just Arrived” explores deeper sounds where I also tried to create a journey less oriented to the club and more for mental listening.
What were the best and worst moments for you in 2016? And finally what have you got lined up for 2017?
I like to focus only on positive memories, since the bad ones are there to learn and move on. It has been an incredible year in which I am really grateful to be able to continue traveling and sharing my music all over the world. The best part is to have met amazing people from different countries, with the same passion for music. For 2017 there are many projects on the table, but my priority at this time is to continue to build Houstrike as a personal project where I can fully express myself, not only with music, but also in many other ways.
