Introducing Southern Italian talent: Atove
At the tender age of just 23 years old, exciting young Southern Italian talent Arturo Silvestre aka Atove is already a force to be reckoned with. His musical journey began, age 11, listening to his father’s old dance records and in just 12 years has led to a career as a DJ and artist, touring the globe and spinning his brand of deep and tech-house. He’s already scored a string of releases on some of the biggest players in the Tech scene – Sanity, elrow, Madtech, Lapsus Music, Straight Ahead Music and Twisted Fusion and 2017 sees Atove drop a heavy new EP on Hector Couto’s esteemed Roush Label. We had a chat to Arturo to find out a little bit more about the man behind the music…
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your music, who or what are your main influences?
I started my music journey when I was 13, listening to my father’s records and old school hip hop music. I started to approach electronic music with a good friend of mine who lives with me in Foggia. When I started I was very young so it was really difficult to be taken seriously. Then as time went on with the help of productions, I had the opportunity to show who I am as a producer and a DJ. I am highly influenced from old school house music artists like Todd Terry, and Kerri Chandler, this shows that my main sound is house, Often my influences are drawn from other genres but it’s always rooted to House music!
How did you first get into DJing / production? When did you know you wanted to be a DJ?
I never really decided to start a career as a DJ or a Producer. I started to make and mix music just for fun with friends, and it became my passion. I continued to make music because I simply love what I do. When I started to release my first records I realized I had the opportunity to become a professional dj/producer. From that moment on, the most important thing for me has been to continue to express myself by music, and achieve higher goals.
Tell us about your local scene and what makes it special
The south of Italy is full of good places to go for clubbers and djs. Places like Guendalina, Cromie, jubilee with a great atmosphere and powerful sound systems. I have to also mention some great promoters here that are bringing some of the best artists in the world to the area. I have many DJ friends in the local scene, and I’m happy to see they usually support my music in their parties. At the moment I play more outside of my local area as my style is more suited to the UK and other European destinations.
Could you talk to us about your upcoming / current release?
On 26 December my ep “Panic Crash” will be out on Roush, then I will be out again (in January) on Roush with a collaboration with my good friend Apollo84 called “back all night” on the “V.A On & On” BPM Sampler! I’m really Grateful for Hector and Antonio and all the roush Staff for trusting in me! Since the first release on it, They gave me the possibility to express my music, being always professional and kind!
I’m also working hard with great artists like Rich Wakley and Apollo84 to finish some new ep’s together as soon as possible and also I’m working on some new personal ep’s for great labels… but I want to keep them secret!
What’s your greatest career high to date?
I think that my first EP on Sanity was really my first goal as producer. I did’t expect the tracks, to do as well as they did, but they went down really good in the clubs and were supported by Top Artists like Hector Couto,Waff, Cuartero… was unreal for me !
This is an introducing piece, tell us something everyone knows and something no-one knows.
I think everyone that meet me knows I love house music and producing it makes me happy, meanwhile no one knows that I hate all my music!! I don’t know why… simply after releasing it I don’t like it much more!
If you could have made any dance record in history, what would it be and why?
It will be for sure Everything But The Girl – Missing (Todd Terry Club Mix), is one of my favourite tracks and one of the tracks that influenced my music, if you ask me why ? then just listen to this masterpiece, “Music is the answer “ ahah.
