Label Spotlight #032 - Wired
This week we caught up with one of our favourite new school heads, the eccentric Brighton boy Enzo Siffredi to award him our latest label spotlight for his forward-thinking imprint Wired. Home to the likes of PEZNT, Sav and Little By Little, Wired is more than just an outlet for Siffredi and his friends’ productions, it’s fast-becoming an essential source for DJs to discover fresh and exciting underground sounds. We chatted to Enzo to learn a bit more about the label and how it all began..
Give us a little bit of background on you, the label and what your influences were and still are.
The label started in 2010 as a small project between 3 friends. The initial idea was to be able to release our music in our own terms and not having to get approval from labels. In recent years it has evolved a lot and we now sign others artists that fit in with what we do. As an artist I have a very wide influence, varying from old French & Italian singers to Cuban Music, Blues, Soul, Funk, Disco and the list goes on… In electronic music, I must say Claude Vonstroke & DIRTYBIRD have definitely been a strong influence, specially the success of his label. Green Velvet remains my strongest influence alongside Mr.Oizo, Armand Van Helden, Fatboy Slim & Dennis Ferrer.
What have been your favourite releases from the label over the years?
One of the releases that really made an impact for the label was Little by Little’s first EP which included “Bang The Box” and was later re-released on Defected. My “She Babao” release also opened a lot of doors for the label and more recently Sav’s “Untitled89” gained a great support from big players across the globe.
Tell us a bit about whatʼs coming up for the label…
Coming up, we have so many exciting releases, including an EP from Kid Enigma which has got his great signature vocals and a really “raw feel” to it. There is a few more very strong releases from Sav, include one of my favourite tracks at the moment “House Music”. Our other in-house artist “White Label” has got a few very interesting tracks coming up and of course “Little by Little” with 2 EPs and a collab Remix with Nico Mendez. Last but not least, we have my own release “No Sugar” due on the 15th of June exclusively on Traxsource and that is without a doubt my favourite work this year.
If you could have signed any record in the world for the label, what would it have been and why?
I would have loved to sign something like “Remember Me” by Blue Boy, simply because it’s a timeless record that had followed me all my life. “Right Here Right Now” by Fatboy Slim too, for the same reason as the above.
What do you look for when signing a record for Wired? Any tips for budding producers looking to get signed to the label?
Firstly it needs to fit in with our sound, secondly it needs to work on dance floors. With this two ingredients, the record has got a very strong chance to get signed. Then if it can also be unique and timeless, it’s a bonus. A quick tip for producers wanting to sign on Wired, listen to our previous releases and to my mixes.
