Large Music In 5 Records

Large Music is the brainchild of Chicago, Windy City resident Jeff Craven. The label was formed in 1993 and since then has gain worldwide respect with quality releases from the likes of Lars Vegas (Detroit Swindle), James, Dexter, Dale Howard, Sek, Kerri Chandler, Miguel Migs etc. Here’s 5 Releases past and present that have shaped Large Music.

Large Music 5 definitive trax…

1. Kerri Chandler – Raw Grooves EP

First dropped in 1995 and a major coup at the time, the very first raw grooves from the legendary Kerri Chandler. Raw and uncompromising deep house that set the framework of the Large Music sound. All four tracks sound as fresh and alive as they did almost 20 years ago. Many a cone has been cracked from the heavy subsonic bass on these!

2. Roy Davis Jr feat Peven Everett – Gabriel (Live Garage Mix)

What can be said about this record that hasn’t already been said? The defining moment for Large Music and the defining moment of the entire UK Garage movement. One of the greatest dance anthems of all time:

3. DJ Rasoul – Soul Searching 3 (Let Me Love You)

In the late 1990s I began to love the sound that was coming out of the San Francisco Bay area, and I particularly had my eye on Guy Nado known throughout the world now as Dj Rasoul. We began a series called Soul Searching and this vocal gem appeared on issue 3. The vocalist was named Shannan and unfortunately has passed away but her legacy lives on in this intimate and deeply personal vocal performance. This track was incidentally recorded at the now infamous Moulton Studios in San Francisco and was also a big anthem with Timmy Regisford at the Shelter in NYC. Apparently he would play it 2 to 3 times a night.

4. Lars Vegas – The Game

A defining moment for what some are calling the “New Large” sound which ironically seems to sound like Large in the 1990s; great House music is always timeless. Lars Vegas is Lars Dales, who is widely known as 1/2 the duo Detroit Swindle. It was an honor to have his first solo project debut on Large. This track went all the way to #1 on the Traxsource main sales chart and was a dominant record during the entire summer of 2013:

5. Deep Future – Attraction (Original Mix)

Another track that appeared in 2013 from the extraordinarily talented Irish producer Brian Durkin and went all the way to #2 in the top sales chart. Classic synths and melody with deep, grooving house beats is the order of the day for this timeless track. I am very proud of this release as it shows Large not only can give a respectful nod to our 90s history but still forge new ground with edgy, forward thinking artists.
