The West Coast Weekender, a celebration of music, dance, and culture in Southern California, which we are supporting through our Powered By Traxsource initiative, has just announced the line-up for the 2018 event – and it is looking just as hot as the San Diego sunshine!
The end of year lists always prove an interesting time here at Traxsource, with so many musical minds coming together to evaluate the sounds of the year, fuelled using a combination of sales data, stats and old-fashioned A&R intuition to navigate the huge volume of releases and weigh up the dance music pioneers alongside the up-and-coming talent.
From its roots in the discos of the 1970s, House music has had a great history of songs and vocalists – a tradition that has continued to the present day. The Traxsource Top 100 Vocalists of 2017 has been a pleasure to compile, as we got to re-listen to some of the best vocal performances and productions of the year. This category is all about contemporary singers – we know there are plenty of classic and legendary vocalists that get remixed and reworked every year – but for this list, we’re talking about active vocalists, working in the House Music scene now. So come with us as we present the songs and the singers: our Top Vocalists of 2017.
When it comes to timeless, emotive dance music, no other genre comes close to the irresistible style, musicality and groove of Deep House. This year’s Top 20 Deep House Artists of 2017 is a mix of well-known names and young guns, all of whom are pushing the music forward and developing it in new directions. When it comes to this particular genre, we’re talking emotive House music, that envelops you in a warm glow, that draws on the past but embraces the future, makes no compromise, and is always underpinned by that ever-present 4/4 groove. 2017 was a fruitful year for the genre, with many artists dipping their toes in the Techno pool and the abundance of more accessible Techno tracks as we witnessed further growth in the European Techno scene. We also saw many of the original pioneers of the scene back in the limelight, producing and touring the globe. We’re delighted to say that, based on their musical output for the year, this year’s list is a healthy mixture of industry veterans and the newer faces of Techno, and exists as a reminder that this broad and busy genre is still very much a global force. With DJs like Harvey, Horse Meat Disco and Aeroplane flying the flag for everything Nu Disco / Indie Dance, 2017 was a superb year for the scene, with track after track of irresistible musical delights, making it impossible for people to leave dance floors worldwide. Packed full of some of the finest productions of the year, here are the Traxsource Top Nu Disco / Indie Dance Artists of 2017.
This year’s list represents the global influence of the genre, and with the artists hailing from the USA, Spain, the UK, Australia, the Netherlands and beyond, never has the ubiquitous nature of the genre been more apparent. Our 2017 list features recognized leaders of the scene alongside unstoppable new talent, so familiarise yourself with the artists shaping the face of Tech in 2018 and beyond.

Vivacious vocals and bouncing beats were everywhere this year, with the more soulful end of the house spectrum finding a new generation of adoring fans in the UK, across Europe to festivals in Croatia, and in Africa as well as traditional heartlands in the USA. A strong channel back to the original New York house scene, the sound has really been going from strength to strength over past few years; it refuses to fade away.
With a sound derived from the earliest tribal rhythms, Afro House has a warm and mysterious melody that takes you on a journey like no other style of house music. 2018 is going to be a huge year for the scene, but let’s check out the DJs and producers who helped put the sound on the map this year, with our Top 100 Afro Artists of 2017.
Funky, fresh and firing, Jackin’ House has been at the very epicenter of the underground dance music scene since its very conception. From its original Chicago-based roots, the sound has exploded across the globe with prolific producers now found in the four corners of the globe preaching from the gospel of Jack.
