DJ Pierre Tells All..

News.Traxsource caught up with Chicago House innovator, pioneer & Mr Acid himself
DJ Pierre to talk about his studio, for the first installment of ‘In The Studio’

What equipment do you have in your studio? (full studio kit list).

In my home studio I have my Mac book Pro, Power Mac G-5, A PC setup, Native Instruments Maschine, Traktor Kontrol S2, Kontrol X1 & Kontrol F1.
Software: Propellerheads Reason 6.5, Logic Pro, Protools, Ableton Live & Traktor Pro 2.

What is your favourite piece of equipment to use in the studio & why?

I would have to say Reasons 6.5. Reason was the best fit for me when I transitioned from hardware to software. I actually do speaking engagements for them now and again as well, so we’ve developed a very cool working relationship with Propellerhead over the years.

Give us some insight into your production process. How do you typically begin constructing a track?

First and foremost I pray and get my spirit right. I understand now that creativity is more a spiritual process rather than simply just a creative process. Second I get my sports news in (ESPN 1st Take) and after that it’s time to get BUSY!

What piece of studio equipment or production process defines the DJ Pierre sound?

Reason and of course the Roland TB 303 although these days I use Rebirth with key effects and distortions.

What piece of hardware/software elevated your production to a higher level & how?

The Buffre repeater from the Reason program.

What fresh equipment have you recently added to the lab?

Reasons Buffre Repeater & Native Instruments Maschine

What are your essential studio supplies (food, drink, cigs etc)?

Red Rain energy shot, juice & water. (maybe some candy if I can sneak it in past my wife. lol)

What list of artists have influenced your sound?

Marshall Jefferson, Lil Louis & Ron Hardy

What are your favourite 3 productions?

Acid Trax, The Horn Song, Generate Power, Switch 2001 (Sorry, couldn’t cut it to 3)

What handy DJ Pierre studio tip would you pass onto producers out there?

Know who you are as an artist. Never attempt to re-create what someone else is doing. You can be inspired, maybe take a few bits and pieces here and there…but never try to duplicate the exact artist’s sound or brand. You will be lost. Once you have that solidified…success in the studio is limitless. You are now ready to conquer your production dreams!

What new production should your fans be on the lookout for at Traxsource soon?

The remake of ‘The Horn Song’ with a Cajmere Remake version, Azza K. Fingers & The Dizz, and a DJ Pierre AC!D FACE remake.

DJ Pierre ‘The Horn Song’ is out now on Cajual records.
