The Music Industry Comes Together For World AIDS Day

In honor of World AIDS Day, December 1st, Traxsource will partner with Lifebeat for #MusicFightsAIDS, a multi-faceted campaign designed to raise awareness and combat this once again increasing epidemic among youth.

The World Health Organization (W.H.O) reports that over 2,600 young people ages 13-24 are newly infected with HIV every day worldwide. Adolescents are the only age group in which HIV-related deaths are rising, and HIV is the second leading cause of death among adolescents worldwide.

From Nov. 24th – Dec 1st, a coalition of major media outlets, celebrities, online music distributors, and music venues will display banner ads, editorial content on websites, and activate their social media platforms in support of “#MusicFightsAIDS. Several superstar DJ’s have recorded PSAs to amplify the message among their young fans.

“#MusicFightsAIDS is a call to action by and for people who live and breathe music,” says Gary Dell’Abate, President of Lifebeat, and the well-known executive producer of The Howard Stern Show. “In honor of World AIDS Day, we are calling on the music industry, media partners, and music lovers to use their megaphones to encourage young people to practice safe sex, get tested.

The medical journal the Lancet, estimates prevention is 28 times more cost-effective than the AIDS-drug cocktails. Donations made HERE will support Lifebeat’s youth HIV Prevention programs, and Hearts & Voices music performances for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

World AIDS Day (December 1st) is the day set aside to remember the 32 million people who have died, and the 34 million people currently living with HIV/AIDS. World AIDS Day was the first designated global health day, the first of which was held in 1988.
