Get To Know: Love & Other

Love & Other latest offering For A Night recently landed on Traxsource, so we decided to dig a little deeper and chat with label manager Ricky Simmonds to find out more about the adolescent imprint.

Love & Other Label Manager: Ricky Simmonds.

Ricky thanks for chatting with us. Can you give us a brief background on the label.

I founded the label pretty much a year ago today! We launched in April 2014 and had our first release in May 2015. The label was founded from a love of good music without restriction. I didn’t want to be tied to a specific style or to have to worry about being too commercial or too underground.

What’s Love & Others musical direction, mission, and overall goal?

The goal is to develop acts from an early stage with the aim of progressing with them through the first stages of their careers. We’re also mixing it up a bit with a few well-known producers on the label like our Sandy Rivera release ‘Physical’. Musically I suppose you could say House and Electronica, every release has to have something unique about it and needs that magic word… Soul.

Tell us about the current label release “For A Night” by The Dealer.

Our latest release comes from The Dealer called ‘For A Night’. It’s more of a disco record with a full vocal that’s picked up support from Pete Tong and charted number two on Hype Machine. Up next is Mediate with ‘What You Do’; it’s this week’s BBC Introducing track of the week so expect to hear a lot of it!

What keeps you motivated? It can’t be easy running a record label today…

Music keeps me motivated! There are so many new artists and records to be discovered it’s great to think today could be the day you come across that gem.

How do you A&R a record for Love & Other, what are you listening out for?

I’m listening for stand out records. It could be that the track has an amazing vocal or it’s got a groove that just motivates you to get up and dance!
