The Interview

Firstly, thanks for taking the time out to chat with us. Tell us where you are and how you are feeling right now.

UNER: Thanks to you. I’m at home. I’m trying to be here as much I can because we had a strong change inside my family and right now it’s not easy for us.

DOSEM: It’s a pleasure! I’m at my studio in Girona right now, working hard on new music.

Obviously, the topic for today is your new ‘Blue Marlin Ibiza Volume 09’ compilation – tell us in your words a little bit about how it came to be…

UNER: We’ve been closely connected with the Blue Marlin team for years… We were also playing there summer and it was fantastic! They also want to focus all the energy on the music so they asked to us about the idea to mix this compilation. We were free to choose the tracklist and of course, working everything through Defected is always very easy. So here we are :)

What are some of your personal favorite cuts from comp and why?

DOSEM: All are special tracks for me… but there are few that I play a lot in my sets. For example Deetron – Photon, Reachin – Cristoph, Terrence Parker – Pentecost (Traumer Reduced Remix)… I’m very practical when selecting my records. If I hear something I like, with soul, groove and energy… then I play it. I like heavy kick drums and [heavy] basslines as well.

Where does your artist name emanate from, what’s its meaning & why did you choose it?

UNER: It’s a funny history. It’s just some letters from my name and surnames. It means nothing.
The idea about this name was something without meaning, without geographical origin… Unfortunately, we have some handicaps in this business and sometimes if you are come from a certain place – it seems like you are better (or worse) than others. I hate this kind of behavior. I wanted to make music and show my music to the people but without any cultural tags. Just the music. And I wanted to receive the real feedback without that kind of behavior.

DOSEM: It came out one day, all of a sudden… it has a special meaning for me, talks about the duality of things.

What trax do you think are going to slap Ibiza this year?

DOSEM: There will be a lot of different styles/genres in the island this summer, it’s hard to pick one… but to be honest, I’m always looking for that track that rocks the crowd but no one knows the name, something not in the Top Ten or the current trend… That’s the real “slap” for me!

Name one thing you besides clubbing you must do while traveling to the Magic Isle?

DOSEM: I have many friends that live in Ibiza, including my manager. I like to meet them and enjoy the island. There are many good restaurants and beautiful beaches.

Is it true that the after parties are where it’s at?

UNER: Everyday is an after party :D so I hope to see you around, soon ;)

Any interesting, funny, inspiring, memorable moments you’ve had in Ibiza you’d like to share?

UNER: Every moment in Ibiza is magic and memorable. Of course, the ANTS parties were amazing last year! But I come to visit Es Vedra every year. You can feel the energy of the island there. Ibiza is not just party and nightlife. You can find a lot of magical spots, restaurants, beaches, etc… Anyway, if I could say my top 3 moments as a DJ around the island, it would be my first time playing with Carl Cox, 6 years ago, also my first gig in Ushuaia and the first time I met Sven Vath :))

And finally, what’s your Ibiza schedule looking like this year?

UNER: It’s looking quite busy :)) After IMS, were we did a panel, the exclusive live show and The MixMag lab – we were waiting for the openings. We are doing Ushuaia opening, of course we are 100% involved with the ANTS colony, where we are looking forward to playing again this year and to be back again for the Carl Cox night opening at Space (6 years already playing there). We also have gigs with the Blue Marlin family and Reverse (where we will have a lot of fun!) And one of our highlights this summer: our date with Jamie Jones and Paradise at DC10 in August!! So it’s gonna be an AWESOME summer for 2015.

DOSEM: I’m going to be resident at the Reverse parties in Sankeys and play few dates in Blue Marlin as well. I’m also doing gigs in Vista Club and Space!
