Get To Know: D-Floor & NiCe 7 From Italy
Italian DJ & production team NiCe7 comprise of two best friends Nicola Daniele and Cesare Marocco. Both started DJ’ing in their teens and joined forces in 2005. For almost a decade now, they have been releasing original tracks together and put out various remixes for labels such as Get Physical, Lapsus Music, Noir Music, DFTD, Toolroom, Defected, Ministry Of Sound and Great Stuff. They also run their own label D-Floor Records.
Their latest label EP ‘V.A. ZERO TRE’ is out right now on Traxsource, so we decided to catch up with the Italian duo to find out more about the current project, the label and more in this featured interview.
1. Nicola, Cesare thanks for chatting with us. Give us some background about your label D-Floor and it’s beginnings.
It’s our pleasure to chat with you guys! D-Floor is a project that we started in 2013. We (NiCe7), Pirupa and Leon are from the same area in Italy, called Abruzzo. We’ve known each other for years, and we had the idea to share our different experiences in the market to develop a record label together.
2 . What’s the imprint’s musical direction, mission, and overall goal?
Our intention from the beginning was to create an eclectic and forward thinking record label. That way we can showcase established producers alongside upcoming young talents in the House and Techno scene. We drop 5-6 releases every year, and we have an artist doing hand-made graphics. D-Floor is strictly about quality.
3. Tell us about the current release compilation V.A. ZERO TRE.
After the first 2 successful volumes, D-Floor’s VA series continues with an EP of 6 tracks from upcoming artists like Wilian Kraupp, Simone Liberali, Mirko Di Florio, Lowboys, Nicola Calbi meets Luky. We’re very pleased to have on board the Italian old school team, “Joyfull Family” too. Pirupa, Leon and us have been testing the music in the clubs for months now along with others. They’ve been receiving amazing feedback from Marco Carola, Hot Since 82, Paco Osuna and Reebot just to name a few.
4. How do you A&R a record for D-Floor? What are you listening for?
First of all, we receive a lot of demos and because of this, we have a meeting once a month to listen through all the music together. Most of the time it’s very hard to catch up because we’re very busy, and we actually live in different cities. As far as the music goes, we’re always looking for quality dance music, from housey to more Techno beats, that’s it!
5. What’s next for your label? (Plug Away)
The next EP will be VA ZERO QUATTRO, with tracks from Alex Kennon, Andrea Ruscitti, Vincenzo D’Amico, Onetram & Alex Mauritz, Lowboys and Rub A Dub.
