
5 Things You Don't Know About Junior Sanchez
Growing up in the unassuming suburb of Belleville, New Jersey and now residing in New York City, at 11 years old Junior Sanchez resorted to using hand-me-down records and two of his parents’ old stereo systems to create a makeshift DJ rig. By age 15, he was already DJing at some of the hottest underground clubs in NYC and perfecting his craft as a producer. Fast forward a bit, and Juniors ever-evolving and forward-thinking style has attracted positive attention from artists spanning all genres. Over the course of his career and has produced and remixed material for Madonna, Shakira, Katy Perry, Good Charlotte, Placebo, The Bravery, Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Blaqk Audio, Hot Hot Heat, Roisin Murphy, Felix Da Housecat, The Faint, New Order, Emiliana Torrini, Jamiroquai, Giorgio Moroder, Moving Units, Les Rhythmes Digitales, and more on high profile House labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Toolroom, Size Records, Inhouse, Nervous, Moda, ITH, Azuli Records, Yoshitoshi Recordings, Junior London many others.
Junior has a fresh project entitled ‘The Stalker’ out on Traxsource via Murk Records right now. So we caught some time with him to find out 5 interesting facts about Mr Sanchez.
1. Hey Junior, thanks for hanging with us. Let’s start with something about yourself that we may not know about you.
Well, I’m really a spiritual person and love to be enlightened by universal things.
2. Besides music, what are your personal pastimes, go-to activities or hobbies?
I’m a lover of art and a foodie to the extreme. I like a challenge in life and business. Also swimming, reading, films, documentaries, cooking and nothing beats a great, engaging, intelligent conversation. Debating is always fun too. LOL.
3. Do you have any secret aliases you’ve produced under throughout the years?
Well, if I told you that it wouldn’t be a secret right!? LOL. I’ve done stuff under ‘Da North Face Killah’, ‘Da controllers’, ‘Subspecies’, ‘Da Mognoloids’, ‘Junebug’, ‘JRSNCHZ’, and currently I have a few release’s coming out as ‘IMIURU’ pronounced ( I AM I U R U ). Another exciting collaboration I have coming is with Jesse Rose! You’ll have to wait and see what we call it ;)
4. Time for a WEIRD question – Do you have any superstitions as a DJ producer or just in general?
I don’t really have any, but I will say this… NEVER turn your back on the ocean! It will hurt you.
5. Last question. Tell us about a job you had before you began your music career.
I worked in a few clothing stores when I was younger. I gave free clothes to all my friends! LOL.
