Phil Weeks rolls out the TR-909
’909 Tools EP’ is the fourth outing for Phil Weeks series of super-limited edition, hand-tagged, white-label vinyl EPs. As the title suggests it’s all about the Roland TR-909, with four beat-led tools crafted on the classic drum machine.
There’s also plenty of the sampling and acid lines that we’ve come to know and love from the Parisian and a sizeable dose of vintage French House inspiration running through all the cuts. Phil doesn’t hide the fact that this is a record he primarily made for himself: “It’s four different tools that are needed all the time in the record bag, well, at least for my record bag! It’s something aimed at DJs to work with in the mix”.
Since 2000 Phil Weeks has released his unique brand of house music on some of the world’s leading underground labels including 2020 Vision, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Magnetic, Detour, Adult Only and his own Robsoul, which is responsible for the majority of his original output. Robsoul has been responsible for his three critically acclaimed albums, including 2012’s ‘Raw Instrumental’.
’909 Tools EP’ is out now on Robsoul.
