Get Inside Re-Tide's Biggest Ever Release
Re-Tide have enjoyed a very special 2015, finishing second in our Top 100 Nu Disco Artists of the year and releasing a whole host of heavyweight tracks on their very own ‘Cut Rec’ label. The Italian duo specialize in revisiting the underground club sounds of the 70s and 80s, with their latest disco infused funk-athon no exception.
Featuring THIRTY individual tracks, ‘Re-Tide’s Collection’ really is just that! This is like visiting a re-edits paradise, with a wide range of recognisable samples rubbing shoulders with a few hidden disco jems from yesteryear. With a sumptous selection of styles and tempos, the consistant theme running through this release is the sheer quality of the disco fuelled production.
With something for everyone on this monster promo, we decided to sit down with Re-Tide to find out what makes them tick and also a little more about this truly outstanding release.
Tell us where you are and how you are feeling right now.
Hi Guys! Patrizio Mattei and Andrea Prezioso here, from the funky side of Rome :)
Tell us in your words a little bit about the ‘Re-Tide’s Collection’ release.
The collection is the final result of the last 5 years of producing music. We start working on these tracks thinking about the ‘mood’ played in the clubs of 70’s and 80’s like The Garage, Better Days and The Music Box; revisiting and re-editing those anthems tracks.
What was the main inspiration behind the ‘Re-Tide’s Collection’?
Inspiration comes from the past, listening to those tracks from the 70’s; the breaks, the dub, the instrumental version of those masterpieces from labels like Prelude, Salsoul, West End and Sam. They still sound so fresh today. What made those records so special is that each tune sounded different one from the other. There were ‘real’ musicians that collaborated on every track and for us, that was the secret.
Who or what inspires you?
The dub versions by Francois Kevorkian, the Ron Hardy’s re-edits, the Grandmaster Flowers mix-tapes.
Where does a music media store like Traxsource fit into your musical agenda?
Traxsource is perfect for us! Our alternative is to buy on vinyl as it always has a special charm. We have produced many projects in vinyl and some tracks are also present on the Re-Tide Collection. Menergy, Love & Happiness, Sylvia and many more.
Do you have a radio show?
Yes, we have a radio show called Capital Party Nu Disco. It’s on air every Saturday at 11 pm on Radio Capital, which has 1.8million listeners daily, plus the national network from ‘Gruppo Espresso’ which also includes another two big radios; Radio Deejay, and m2o. The program has been on-air for 5 years and we play Funk, Boogie, Retro Disco, Balearic and Nu-Disco. We had special guests on the show like Joey Negro, Dimitri From Paris, Danny Krivit, Daniele Baldelli, Ltj Luca Trevisi, Tiger & Woods and we made Special Tributes to Nicky Siano, David Mancuso, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Francis Grasso, The Paradise Garage, Grandmaster Flash and many more.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
We have great projects with our label Cut Rec. It’s a sub-label of Metropolitan Recordings which also another label; Taste Of Honey. The A&R of these three labels are me (Patrizio) and Danny Omich. Danny works for m2o radio, another big online Italian station, where we present a radio program that plays only house music called ‘Waves’. For the next few years, we plan to create big showcases of these three labels, in Rome and beyond. We trust in the music
Finally, what would be your short list of dream collaborations, past or present?
From the past Tee Scott and Ron Hardy. From the present, Dave Lee and Purple Disco Machine. That would be great!
