Inside The Track with Till Von Sein
A firm favourite here at Traxsource HQ, Tilly is back with another dynamite EP on SUOL. For your ears only and exclusive to Traxsource, Till Von Sein drops another underground winner, with the 4-tracker ‘Forever’. We were lucky enough to talk shop with the man himself and dig deep into the production behind the release..
Congratulations on your new release! How is it being received in your sets? & How are other club DJs responding to the release?
Thank you Guys. Im one of those DJs who is notorious for not playing his own material ;)
I road tested all 4 of them the first weekend I got the master files and they sounded really good to me. So far all the feedback has been really good. I’m mostly surprised that the deeper ones get such great feedback, I guess this comes with the need for some warm and deep vibes in this cold time of the year.
And I’m always happy when a diverse range of DJs send a positive feedback, not only the usual suspects.
Tell us more about the track. What was the main inspiration behind it and what prompted the musical direction on this?
Puntarenas is one of these countless tracks I did in my career to ease my mind in a stressful phase of my life. A typical Tilly Jam, a deep one. I was messing around with the Omnisphere plugin, working on lead melodies, so the celeste stuck in my mind for a while. I added this Moog melody on top of that and that was pretty much it. I tried to keep the groove basic to have full focus on the music. I finish all my music with Tigerskin these days so I knew that we would add some extra flavour afterwards. We found this old sax sample in his archive which fit just perfectly.
Production wise, what is it about the track that makes it work?
As described above: the simple but efficient groove mixed with those lush melodies and warm harmonies.
Something you can listen to in the car, at home or played outside during the day at the beach.
What is the one machine, program, sound, drum machine, technique that characterizes your sound?
There is always this one plugin I’ve used for a while and you can hear it in my productions. For a while it has been the Lounge Lizard, then a Moog and now its the Omnisphere. Time for a new one btw ;)
What is the one piece of kit that you simply cannot do without?
I’m an 808 guy. I only have the TR8 at home. But I’m lucky enough that Tigerskin owns a real one. I lost count on how many times we used the kick, the toms, the cymbal. If you really want to make me happy: a looooong 808 kick and I’m all yours.
Any advice for your fans on how to make it in today’s fast paced game?
Be patient, People get lost in these times when everybody can be famous for 15 minutes and it saddens me. Don’t expect to make a living out of this after you put out your first record. And don’t even think that you made it, after some random guy from around the world commented on your latest Instagram post that you’re the dopest out there.
