Giano tributes Derrick Carter
Classic has always been a label of its creator‘s style and taste, the peculiar flavours of choice from Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter which can usually be identified as either ‘Luke records‘ or ‘Derrick records‘. With this latest EP, Californian born Ian Lujon a.k.a Giano delivers two tracks which most certainly fall into the ‘Derrick records’ category; straight for the jugular house music, made solely for the hips & ass rather than for the head & the heart. ‘This Is House’ is a spoken word Chi-Town anthem in the making featuring vocal snippets from some of House music’s founding fathers expressing their personal opinions on what they define as house music. Making appearances in Derrick‘s recent Boiler Room set and guest mix for Heidi‘s Radio 1 show, this one has been pricking the ears and troubling the feet of many for quite some time now.
Without upping roots and moving to the mid-west, and bringing up a whole clan of pooches, ‘The Underground‘ couldn‘t be any more ‘Derrick‘ if it tried. A boogie bump which has become a firm fixture of his DJ sets and has ripped dancefloors from Manchester to Sydney and back to Chicago again for the past 6 months now. Infectious rolling baseline, filtered looped vocal sample and a lead ‘Tonight we’re gonna flip & tripâ loop which you can’t not dance to.
