Whats Hot This Week

1. Jamie Principle – Baby Wants To Ride (S&S Remixes) Volume 1 of 2 (S&S Records)

S&S Records, Inc. (and S&S Chicago, Inc.) was established in 2005 by 4-time Grammy nominated producer Steve “Silk” Hurley and global DJ/Producer Shannon “DJ Skip” Syas. Silk and Skip merged Hurley’s worldwide commercial success and Syas’ strong global following to form S&S Records. S&S Records has accumulated a catalog of over 500 records and album projects from artists such as: Syleena Johnson, CeCe Peniston, Ann Nesby, DJ Skip, Paul Johnson, Kym Sims, Chantay Savage, J.M Silk, Jamie Principle & Steve “Silk” Hurley, just to name a few. As House Music’s FIRST ARTIST, Jamie Principle is truly an “Unsung” hero of Chicago House Music. Jamie’s “Bedroom Demos” such as the classic “Your Love” were created in 1982, and by 1983, they were floating around the city on reel to reel and low-quality “cassette dubs,” passed on from DJ to DJ. This was due to the high demand created by the legendary Frankie Knuckles. By 1983, Frankie had introduced Jamie to the underground by playing his songs in the “Powerplant”, the successor to “The Warehouse,“Frankie’s legendary club in Chicago. That created a groundswell that grew from underground to the mainstream club scene and Radio Mixshows. While many DJ’s were creating “Re-Edits” and “Re-Makes” of Classic Disco music, Jamie was creating ORIGINAL SONGS in his bedroom. Jamie’s demos helped change the culture of Chicago DJs to one of playing not only those re-edits and remakes, to playing Jamie’s “UNRELEASED EXCLUSIVES,” which lead to many Chicago DJs such as Jesse Saunders, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk & Steve “Silk” Hurley (JM Silk) creating their own Original Song Demos.” As other Artists such as Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard & Robert Owens (Fingers Inc), Lil’ Louis, Chip E., and Adonis (just to name a few) exposed their demos to the DJ’s, these “demos” all became records, and “HOUSE MUSIC was born to the world!Jamie went on to become a huge figure in Chicago House Music, but often was misunderstood. Although his talent is that of a huge mainstream artist, it turned out that he never really wanted that. Steve “Silk” Hurley and his ID Records saw the potential in Jamie and wanted to take him to that level, but now everyone realizes that’s not what Jamie really wanted as an artist. He just wants to do it for the “love of the music”, and whatever comes of that is fine with him. So “Silk” and Jamie came together to get his original vision out there. And if it goes mainstream, so be it! The Original 1984 Demo of “Baby Wants To Ride” was produced by Jamie and Steve “Silk” Hurley, and recaptures all of the elements of Jamie’s “Bedroom Mix,” without the hiss of the Cassettes that were in such high demand in 1984.S&S Records is proud to present a stellar package of remixes from today’s brightest stars in the dance world, such as: Alfred Azzetto, Jez Pereira, Paul Hawkins, Mauritzio, Rubb Sound System, Broadway & WilsonDistributed by Label Engine – www.label-engine.com

5. Chasing Kurt – From The Inside (Defected)

Originally released in the latter half of last year, Chasing Kurt’s poignantly crafted track titled ‘From The Inside’ quickly became regarded as one of the most anthemic house tracks of 2013. The track combines soulful piano chords with powerfully emotive vocals to create an innovative modern day deep house classic which possesses such originality it comes as a breath of fresh air. Made up of Pascal Blanché, Wojtek Kutschke and vocalist Lukas Polocze, the Polish house group originally released the track on their album of the same name, but this year the number is being released once more alongside remixes from some of world’s most credible producers.

First up is legendary German artist Henrik Schwarz, who has a knack for making every one of his productions as exciting as the next. His rendition of ‘From The Inside’ is no anomaly as he demonstrates his sublime approach to music making by using analogue bass stabs and violin bowing before floating atmospheric synths emerge to take centre stage. Konstantin Sibold’s mix is a completely different beast altogether, using denser kick drums and haunting claps as the bed for reverberating vocals and a bouncy hook. Hamburg producer Lovebirds provides his signature classic house angle with his Forte Piano Mix, a remix using gentle bongo percussion and soulful piano to emulate a Balearic vibe that magically transforms the original from serene and heartfelt to funky and upbeat. Tying up the release is an energetic remix from Copyright who make use of busy percussion and a catchy lead hook to forge a track capable of setting fire to any dancefloor it’s dropped on.
